COMMENT FOR THE DAY #68  – EPISODE 2

MEDIATION

Yesterday we began to address the problem of a stumbling mediator lacking verbal fluency. First things First – a mediator needs people to hear him + listen to her. Fail here + you are struggling to do your job. So work at your deficiency. Attack it. Overcome it.

Yesterday I focused on talking uninterrupted for two minutes – under your breath. You can give yourself a topic – any topic. It does not matter what you talk about – just that you talk + get used to talking. It builds fluency. Confidence grows. Word skills come. You do not run dry.

This is the simplest of exercises. No cost. Just two minutes here + there. But two things are a must – (1) two minutes + (2) do it regularly.
But what do I talk about? I gave the example of the letters of the car number in front of you. Another example is to go to the lead item on page 4 of your newspaper – no ums or aahs – there is a topic. Talk about it.

The heading for this topic is Speaking Fluently. It applies with equal measure to Arbitrators + Mediators. People will listen.
