ARBITRATION/MEDIATION #102

A 24hr pause in order to explain why this daily column is written. What does it say? Who is it for?

There is a significant gap in the post-qualification training of arbitrators/mediators. We qualify, we get appointments, we work but the review/discussion of our work is not ongoing – maybe just once a year. We need more. We need continuous professional development.

My approach – following football referee’s training – is Match Incidents. Why was the player offside? Was it a penalty? Should the player have been red-carded? So look at arbitration/mediation events, discuss them, clarify them + add to our store of knowledge + experience. We all need refreshers.

So in a gentle, reflective style, I prepare scenarios for followers of this column to read, review, consider + go forward. What you do in real-life situations depends on you + your experience + your ongoing development. This column is intended to ask a few questions + suggest a few answers. What Do I Do Next?

So far – so good. Readers like the challenges of the different scenarios. You can always approach me at graham@grahamperry.eu.
