COMMENT OF THE DAY #30

It happens. Arbitrators become jaded. Work piles up. You are losing your sparkle. You are not on top. You are falling behind. You are not leading – just following.

And you are no good to anyone. Mistakes will happen + you will be failing to bring your skills into play. You are going through the motions – not putting your weight into the case – not playing your role – not earning your money. Not to be unkind – you are being a phoney.

Harsh words? No. You have to be honest with yourself all the time, in all cases, in every aspect of your work. You need to be alert, interested, intrigued, looking forward to discussion + debate + enquiry. You are a professional being paid for your skills.

None of us can live our lives to the full for every second of every day. There are days when we can’t stop talking + other days when we are just quiet. What we want is balance. What we need to do is to strive to do our best.

So look yourself in the mirror every morning + ask yourself one question Am I Doing My Job? And here is the key point – give yourself an honest answer. Every now and then – like every morning – we need to call ourselves to account.
