Some may think this is just stating the obvious – after all as an arbitrator you are handling documents, submissions, draft awards, draft directions and exchanges with fellow arbitrators.
If you start messy and untidy, you never change. You just get by. Nothing bad happens so continue with the bad habits.
But look yourself in the mirror and ask one question “Am I Doing It Right?” If the answer is No then today you vow to change. You actually do something about it. Easy to say but hard to do.
One of the most difficult things in life is to change a bad habit.
It has worked its way into your system, into your culture, into your way of doing things. We are creatures of habit – we do today what we did yesterday.
But take a pause, have a think and consider change. It does help. The burdens are lifted – you are ahead and not behind. It really helps you to do your work as an arbitrator – and mediator – to a higher level
Think about it!
