MEDIATION #233

So two issues now face the Mediator – first, does she have feelings for Juliet and, second, if she does where does that leave her in relation to the Mediation?

First things first – is this something significant? How does the Mediator know? After all, this is all new to her. And if there are feelings are they just a moment in time – a middle age version of a teenage crush – or is she, as a mature woman, experiencing emotions that have never surfaced previously in relation to any other female at any other time in her life?

The only person she can discuss this with is Juliet but How to Raise? What to Say? This is such a new experience for our Mediator – really uncharted waters. She has never been here before. But she does draw on her life experience. At other key points in her life, she has always addressed issues + not concealed them. Settled on her chosen way forward she rehearses the words she plans to use  torments herself in the process.

But our Mediator is also aware that once she discloses her feelings to Juliet she has to withdraw from the Mediation. There is no alternative. She may not need to give the true reason for a withdrawal but she knows that she cannot continue in that role. She ceases to be independent + impartial.

She makes an appointment to see Juliet. She is aware that this is not just another mediation meeting + even wonders at length (for the first time) what she should wear – itself an indication that something quite deep is rattling away within her. She makes her way to Juliet’s house – intentionally at a time when the children are at school. With a palpitating heart and clammy palms, she rings the bell. The door opens + Juliet welcomes her quite unaware of the purpose of the meeting.
